Northumberland County is home to the Apple Route. The Apple Route celebrates a special region of Ontario. Only an hour east of Toronto by car, the Apple Route offers a vibrant range of activities. This southern area of Northumberland County and Quinte West, pressed between the Great Pine Ridge and Lake Ontario has, for 200 years, enjoyed a rich agricultural history that brought both prosperity and continuity.

Nestled in the rolling hills of Eastern Ontario's 'Apple Country', the Apple Route meanders through pleasant orchards and friendly towns & villages between Port Hope and Trenton.

The core of the Apple Route follows signs along Heritage Highway 2 and 'spurs' take the traveler to scenic Presqu'ile Park near Brighton, historical Lakeport, past Fort Kente at Carrying Place and connects with the Loyalist Parkway. Numerous craft stores and roadside markets carry apple-themed items.
